[SOLVED] i5 6600K looking to upgrade your thoughts? 144hz 1440p

Hello there i currently I have a 6600k clocked at around 4.7ghz 1.4v

Now i am running a 1440p 144hz monitor i've been getting into overwatch lately and my CPU does max out alot causing in the occasional drops

What is the fastest gaming cpu? is the i9 9900k a good idea? My budget is flexible it just depends on what will work the best, Im looking for your opinions thank you.
Also i have a 1080 TI

1.4V seems awfully high for an i5. Yes, the 9900K is the fastest gaming CPU. It's also the hottest running CPU on the market, requiring an extra $100 just to keep it cool from overheating. You would need a new motherboard.

Hmm yeah it does seem like a expensive option the reason I say the i9 is because the i7 9700k is only around $150 cheaper where I live so i think I’d rather just spend the extra and get the i9

However it’ll cost me around 1k for CPU Motherboard and Cooler 😅

9900k isn't worth it. 3700x is a much better deal. Cheaper, doesn't require a $100+ cooler, and the performance difference between just the 2 cpus alone isn't worth $150.
The one advantage Intel had over AMD, speed, has dwindled.

Most gaming benchmarks show the 3700X about on par with the 8700K in most games...so, ahead of the 6600K, and with much fewer dips in the .1/1% lows...and now with 16 threads instead of 4....

Yes, the 3700X is faster than the 6600K in gaming.

Assuming that you stick to Intel, 9600k works great for gaming and is an effective overclocker. If you want to stream, consider the 9700k. If you are an enthusiast and want the best of the best, you can get a 9900k, but it's overkill.

More than just that, NONE of Intel's current offerings really have anything over Rzyen 3000.
9400F - $150 VS Ryzen 2600 and OC'ing it a little - $140
9600K - $240 + cooler VS Ryzen 3600 - $200, *cooler is optional
9700K - $360 + cooler(~$100+) VS Ryzen 3700X - $330, *cooler is optional
9900KF - $450 + cooler($100+) VS Ryzen 3700X - $330, *cooler OR 3900X(if you REALLY need those extra cores/threads) - $500, *cooler
*Already comes with a cooler, but the 'audiophiles' are going to want to replace it - 3000 max rpm, after all. No need for a beefy cooler, a $50 cooler would cover both cooling and noise.

Get a Ryzen 5 3600/3600X if you want to save money and then overclock to 4.1-4.2Ghz to get close to the maximum overclock that all the Ryzen 3000 series CPUs can reach when oc'ed. The Ryzen 5 3600X to the Ryzen 9 3900X are all objectively the same in terms of actual playable fps from game to game when overclocked. Get the 3700X or 3900X if you need the extra cpu threads for production work. From what I have read and heard the 3800X may actually be consistently the best overclocker (highest increase) out of all the 3000 series CPUs.

Hmm well if a ryzen 3600 is similar in gaming maybe i could go for that, i have no loyalty to either brand i really just want a fast gaming cpu something faster than i currently have im most loyal to my wallet haha

If you decide to buy a Ryzen 5 3600 and overclock, make sure you look into the best method to overclock for you, instead of just going full manual overclock first. Also try to get Ram with the fastest speed and the tightest timings you can afford. AMD has actually recommended DDR4 3600 with 16-16-16-36 timings.
