Hi, I have got:

i5 6600K 4x3.5GHz
MSi GTX 1070
16Gb of 3000MHz DDR4 RAM
Asus ROG Maximus VIII Gene

I can play games like The Witcher 3, AC Syndicate, Crysis 3 and Mirrors Edge Catalyst on highest settings at 3440x1440, but it isn't really smooth and the GPU gets quite hot; the CPU not so much.

Can I just connect another GTX 1070 via SLi and everything runs smoothly or will the CPU be underpowered?

Selling the 1070 for a 1080 isn't an option, since I don't have any packaging and would just lose money.

Thanks in advance!

i5 6600k is not much slower than 6700k. I strongly suggest to overclock it above 4.4GHz to alleviate any CPU bottleneck if you want to do 1070 SLI, which is EXTREMELY powerful and will surely rank very top of the chart on 3DMark charts. Also make sure you have a high quality power supply unit to match your high end motherboard and the high end SLI set up if you decide to do so. Finally, remember to modify the fan speed profile for your 1070, which will run at higher boost clocks more consistently if the cooling is excellent.
