Hi all,

I have an i5 7400 paired with a GTX 970 G1 gaming from Gigabyte overclocked to 1450 MHz

I'm running every game in ultra preset at 1080p and getting 65+ FPS , and with BF4 i'm getting 100+ FPS...

My question is,
Is it a good deal to change my GPU with a GTX 1070 ? or am I gonna experience bottlenecks?

P.S. I have no intentions to change my CPU in the near future.

My rig :
MOBO : Gigabyte Z170X G1 Gaming 5
CPU : i5 7400
GPU : GTX 970 G1 Gaming
RAM : 16 GB HyperX Fury
PSU : Xigmatek 650W

I upgraded to a 1070 from a 970 about half a year ago just for fun, and the difference was nothing.

Don't upgrade unless you are not satisfied with your current performance.

Just curious, as I too have a 970.

What kinds of games do you play, at what resolution? And FPS?

GtaV, Battlefield 1, Half a dozen different driving simulators. A bit of everything.

I play at 1080p and generally shoot for 60fps unless its a 2d indie game or something.

Are you playing with Vsync on? A GTX 1070 is waaaayyy more powerful than a GTX 970 even a 3GB 1060 is a low-decent amount more powerful...

He can wait for Geforce GTX 2070 which will newly introduce GDDR6

2070, That sounds so cool.

As an owner of a 1070, keep the 970. The 1070 is a great card really but since you already have a 970 which can max out most games there is no point in upgrading it.

Your current system is pretty balanced, just keep it till it doesnt satisfy you anymore then look for an upgrade otherwise it's a waste of money. :)

at 1080p an i5 will bottleneck a 1070.

i just recently upgraded from a 390 and a 6600k to a 7700k and a 1080. its definitely worth it, even for 1080p gaming. if you can get a good deal. but upgrade the cpu first.

I have an i5-4690k with a 1070 and the only bottleneck is GTAV at very very very high settings.

You dont need a supercomputer to run a 1070. What is it with that misconception?
