[SOLVED] I5 7500 vs i5 4690k

Solution
I would not upgrade to 7th gen from 4th, and would not buy 7th gen as a new build at all when considering Ryzen 3 3xxx.

If this is something you have to choose one or the other, already have, nearly free....go with the 7th gen.
the 7500 is gens newer and a bit stronger for sure especially if you won't oc the 4690k. they run on different mobo's and with different ram though so they are not interchangable.

if this is something new to purchase, you can do a lot better than either for sure. but we'd need more information about what is going on to be able to offer any such advice

fully agree. depends on the scenario we talkibg about. i'd never build new with either of these but a nearly free upgrade/handmedown is always a different story :)

I have a 4690k system with a older MB and 16gigs ram ddr3 1600mhz, however my brother in law upgraded and gave me his spare MB, i5 7500 and 32gigs ram 2133 and i was questioning myself wether the cpu trade was viable or not.

If at some point i do actually upgrade i will go into AMD because their cost/effect ratio is a lot better imo.

Thanks for the replys!

The only Intel 6th/7th gen that still gives decent gaming is the 7700K, but, it's ludicrous used/new pricing makes any R5-3600/B450 combo a screaming bargain...(which outperforms 7th gen in almost everything anyway); the i5-7500 suffers from 'only 4 threads' which limits min and average FPS in most games these days...)

for free i'd go for it. no reason not to. more and faster ram and a little bit more performance from the cpu. no reason not to do it :)
