I5 760 high temps and underclock

Looking for some help fixing my cpu temps. Recently i swapped a zotac gtx 760 2g blower fan and 2x4g ballistix 1600mhz ram into my ga-p55-usb3 i5 760 setup with stock cooler. I had some issues getting the parts to work with system shutting off with whatni assumed was high temps but my buddy was able to help me reapply paste to the cooler and gpu and we got it running.

So basically my cpu was running around 50 idle 90load temps before the new paste and parts. After its doing the same and ive had some fps issues in overwatch and world of warcraft and everyone is pointing to cpu temps. I remember reading the 760 had high stock temps a while ago but i recently saw someone here had issues with 1600mhz ram causing their 760 to run at 2.4 instead of 2.8. Ive tried open case and large house fan blowing in the case and neither moved the temps at all. The pc is quiet old as are the case fans which are working but not pushing high amounts of air out, front fan sucking in and top and back blowing out

My question is what is likely the cause of these high temps and under clock speed. The ram being 1600, stock cooler, or bad paste/cooler mount or some other issue. I have a hyper 212 evo 6.5inches in cart currently just trying to see if it will fit in my cm storm scout (first version)8 inches from outside measuring or if ill need something smaller.

Yes that is the problem now ekoostik. I will swap the 1600 back in with default and get cpuz pics shortly.

So i went to install then 4g 1600 sticks and thought heck ive tried 2x2g(1333) with 2x4g(1600) but never 2x2g(1333) +1 4g(1600). So tested and its actually running 8gs with the speedstep and everything pretty stable right now. I havent done a memtest but its been under gaming load for 2 hours now with no issues. I might be solved by just random luck of testing.

I can install the 2x4g and post more cpuZ pics if youd like but im happy with 2x2g +1x4g right now. As long as im at 8g im happy, considering my hyper 212 covers ram slot 1 max i could run would be 2x4g +1x2g and i doubt 2gs will make much difference right? since im just gaming and not maxing 8gs at all.

Cooler mount/cooler temp issues and ram issues seem to be solved i believe. Will give it another day or so to be sure and close the topic.

Because you are running mixed sized RAM, you are likely running in single channel mode, rather than the faster dual-channel mode. But if you are happy with the performance of having 8GB total in single channel mode, then I would consider it a success.

Its good enough for now i think, the 2x4g 1600 weren't a kit apparently, dunno if that was causing any issues on my pc. It worked for his fine. How much real performance would i see from getting 2x4g in dual channel rather than 2x2 +4 in single channel? Ill read up on it some. However in the cpuz pic above it says rank: dual is that dual channel?

No, dual rank refers to the architecture of the RAM, there are probably chips on both sides. I don't think you will see a significant performance increase in dual-channel mode. Maybe 10-15%. I think your performance increase by having more ram, even if single channel will be greater.
