So I've decided to overclock my Cpu (yes this is my first time) to 4.2Ghz (going with intels recomendation this time) .

My question is, how do I decide what voltage is needed or what voltage would be recomended at that speed?

I have the Noctua NH-U9S CPU cooler.

Thank you :)

How long is a piece of string?

The best way to start is to leave the voltage on auto and make a note of what it is. From there, keep decreasing it until your computer crashes or fails a stress test.
Alright that sounds good, but lets say it crashes at 1.100, do I crank up the voltage to ca 1.105 and leave it or do I go higer. Im not realy sure how the voltages work, I assume the cpu is not maintaing a constant voltage use? So how do I make sure it has enough juice for when it needs it?

Hi, yeah at 4.5ghz I found my CPU crashing at 1.75v but ran stable at 1.90v for 1h on aida 64xtreme. But all cpus are different so results may vary. But around 1.85-1.2v is optimal for 4.5ghz I think:)

Ah ok, thanks. Yeah im on an i5 7600k 4.2ghz at 1.2v, which i think I could lower for better temps, so will try lowering.
