[SOLVED] i5-8400 upgrade to i7-7700k

So... I ordered an i7-7700k online and I assumed it was compatible with my motherboard... However my motherboard's serial number cant be seen... So I was wondering.. Can I use my -7-7700k from an i5-8400?

Not compatible, the 7700k only runs on 100/200 series motherboards while the 8400 uses 300 series.

I assume you mean i7 that works with 300 series. Yes there is 8700/8700k/9700/9700k, depending on exact motherboard the 9700/9700k may need a bios update before installing the new cpu.

Right, So I have found Out my PC actually has an i5-7400, Please say I am in luck?

You are ok but would be good to know your exact motherboard. If it is not a Z170/Z270 you won’t be able to overclock which is the main benefit of a ‘k’.
