So, I've been thinking of changing my GPU before Battlefield V hits as it is my primary focus on PC, wanted to buy RTX 2080 but found out that the i5-8400 is hardly bottlenecking it, since it's super expensive I want to spend my money smart. I got MSI 24MAC24C monitor 144hz freesinc 1080p monitor so my main focus is to get as many fps possible in BF games as possible. Is 1080TI going to do the trick and last me for at least 2-3 years? This GPU is my month sallary basically so I'd appreciate your advice.

Current setup:
MOBO - MSI B360 A Pro
CPU - i5-8400
GPU - EVGA GTX 970
RAM - 2x 8gb Fury X 2666 CL15

The reason I suggested the Vega 56 is because you have a free sync monitor. This is what Lutfij was eluding too. Free sync is a feature that will sync your monitor refresh rate with the GPU fps output. What it creates is very smooth gameplay with little to no lag. It is a very nice feature. Nvidia has a similar tech called gsync. But you have to have a monitor that supports gsync and yours does not. Therefore, since you already have a free sync monitor, I would go with an AMD...
Thx for the quick reply, the PSU I have is XFX Black Edition XTR Full Modular 550W - recommended by a friend. Is my MOBO compatible with AMD GPU's as well? I've always been more of the green team guy ^^

What about the GPU from nvidia? Couse if 1080ti may give me more fps than 1080 in BF V then I'll gladly go for it, the basic question here is:
What GPU to pair with the i5-8400 on 1080p 144hz so I can have stable 130+ fps on ultra and not overprice 😛

Honestly, a 1080ti is overkill for 1080p. You should not look at that card unless you are going for 1440p or higher. At 1080p, you will be CPU limited. Your 8400 will be the bottleneck with the 1080ti.

Nothing is going to give you stable "130+" fps in BFV. It is a new AAA game and will be taxing on any system. There will be frame drops on even very highend systems. This is where free sync/gsync really comes into play. Gameplay will remain very fluid and smooth even when frames drop. Additionally, while higher fps makes a big difference between 60hz and 100hz, the difference is much less from 100hz to 144hz. So I would not be completely focused on that.

You could go with the Vega 64. It is competitive with the 1080 and BFV will run nicely on it. But you may need a new PSU as it is pretty power hungry. The Vega 56 is the better value as with some tweaks it is decent GPU now that the crypto mining is dead.
