Hello, im looking to buy a gaming pc soon and was wondering how the performance on 1080p was on pubg with an i5 8600k + gtx 1080. Im playing on 144 hz so im looking for good framerates (120+). I used to have an r5 1600 + 1070 ti and it was far from enough to achieve good fps (was getting 60-120 fps depending on the zone 2 months ago, idk if it has gotten any better in terms of optimization), so im wondering how this combo would work on it.

Its not the only game i play but it used to be the only game i had issues running. Also wondering on the performance with an 8700k or an 1080 ti if anyone has any experience.

I know those gpus may be overkill for 1080p but i just like high fps over res

Pubg is badly optimised. I reckon 8600k + 1080 Ti should provide solid 60+ fps at 1440p, even more at 1080p. You just gotta test out various settings and find the sweet spot, but even on max I don't think it would dip below 60 fps. Also, don't forget to overclock that CPU, need every extra bit you can get.

You may want to invest in a good GSYNC monitor rather than build a new PC as that can somewhat mitigate frame time stutter.

A lot of shooter games are CPU limited so if spending the cash yes an i5-8600K OC'd to 5GHz (or similar) is the best you can do really.

Going from GTX1070Ti to GTX1080? Why?

As said PUBG is quite unoptimized so if you get big FPS drops to say 20FPS and jump that to 30FPS with a good i5/i7 8th gen that's better but also seems like a big waste of money for one game.

"It's been six months since we last tested PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and it's safe to say that the game still requires further optimization. Shoddy Ryzen support aside, even the Core i7-8700K and GTX 1080 Ti combo was very underwhelming -- an average of 123fps at 1080p using the minimum quality settings is pathetic."

I don't know, spending a shit-tonne of money for maybe 20% possibly 30% max difference for this game and possibly a couple others is hard to justify to me.

**AND those FPS drops may still feel shitty even with an i7-8700K@5GHz at times... Go back and play an old game at 60FPS VSYNC ON (like Half Life 1) and it's frikking smooth due to lack of missed frames... yet 100FPS in PUBG can feel sluggish?

I should have said this before but i no longer have the r5 1600 + gtx 1070 ti build, dont wanna go into detail but it got stolen about 2 months ago so now im looking to buy another gaming pc, considering the performance i had with my last one
