[SOLVED] I5 9600k or I7 9700k

I currently own a i5 8400, I shouldn’t be upgrading because my current cpu is pretty decent but I am upgrading to a 240hz monitor from a 144hz.
Basically my cpu just can’t pump out that many frames at my current settings.

I know it’s not the GPU because the GPU (1060 6GB) hangs at 20-40% usage while the CPU hangs at 80-100% usage.

I am still gonna upgrade to a 2060 but the main question is the CPU here.

If I purchase the i5 I am gonna be overclocking to 5.0ghz
If I purchase the i7 I am gonna be overclocking to 5.0ghz-5.1ghz. (Possibly even 4.9ghz, only a 0.10 difference but it helps)

Any decent difference in performance with these two processors?

Mostly the gpu will provide you with the fps you need to reach as far you can for 240fps. I believe its better i5 9600k and take a 2060 super or even better a 2070 super. You can see the video below the i7 9700k vs the i5 9600k at 1080p resolution with an RTX 2080 the difference is not that big.

I will take your advice and look into getting a i5 9600k & 2070 super.

So i7 9700k with rtx 2060 6gb will give more fps vs i5 9600k with rtx 2070 super while in 1080p with rtx 2080 have a difference 5-10 fps depend of the game? We speak for a restricted budget of course the ideal would be i7 9700k with rtx 2070 super.

I could put more into my budget, currently it’s (2000$ AU).

I thought if you take i7 you have to take a 2060 6gb. If you can yes take i7 9700k and 2070 super. Still the single core performance is close between these cpu thats why the difference in fps in games is not that big but i7 have more cores so it is more future proof and better if you need to have other programs running while you gaming.
