i5 CPU choice

Just wondering what CPU is recommended:
i5 7500 at £186
i5 7600 at £206
i5 7600k at £228 (I have z270 motherboard, but I'm not sure I will ever go down the overclocking route!)

It's for general use plus gaming by my son. I'm tempted to just go for the cheapest, I'm after maximum bang for buck but want it to last at least 4-5 years.

Solution

I would take into account the price difference between your Z270 motherboard and a comparable H270 board. That difference is more or less put to waste by not getting a K series CPU.

But at any rate, no, it is not a 23% performance gain.

Since you already have a Z270 motherboard, get the K series chip so you at least have to option of overclocking at some point if necessary. . Not getting a K series CPU makes the Z270 chipset a non-value adding purchase (as opposed to a chipset that does not allow overclocking).

Overclocking will also help squeeze a bit more life out of the CPU if you find it's performance not where you want it in the future.

Thanks for the answer.
It's an extra £42 or 22.5% over the 7500. Plus I'll have to boost the cooling. Will it perform more than 22.5% faster?
I'm after bang for buck, but also longevity ... perhaps a bit contradictory!
