i5 to i7 upgrade, black screen

Upgrading from i5-6600k to i7-7700k on ASUS z170-E. Boots fine on i5 but has black screen on i7. What can cause this and is there a solution?

Did you update the BIOS for the new processor?

I tried. I believe it was offline. But it did give me 3 clickable files which I was not sure of what they do.

Ok. I did manage to update from version 18xx to 35xx but I have the same problem.

At this time, I'd probably take out the graphics card and try to boot the system with the display connected to the motherboard's on-board graphics. If that doesn't work, try booting your system into safe mode.
