i5 vs i7 for music production

A friend wants a PC built for music production using software such as logic, cubase and reason.

The system requirements recommend i5 or faster, obviously the i7 has hyper threading but at a cost. He does electronic music at a professional level but also wants to keep costs down. Would he really benefit from an i7 or would the i5 suffice so we can put more money into quality parts elsewhere in the build?

Forget i5 or i7. You want a RYZEN 5 1600/1700.

Since image, video and audio processing involve tons of trivial parallelism, I agree with RCF that a Ryzen 1600/1700 would be much better options than an i5 or i7.

Gives more performance for less money for those applications (low end i5 price but i7 performance). Can you give a budget + country so we can maybe make a good build?
