i want to buy a i5 6600k for my rig but recently,my budget has increased and i was wondering if it is worth it to spend more and buy a i7 6700k. the i5 is 325$(cad) and the i7 is 425$
specs:
mobo;BIOSTAR RACING Z170GT7
gpu: asus strix 1080
8gb of ram
600 watt psu

Solution
For pure gaming, i5 is already sufficient.
If you do other stuffs too like stream the game you are playing, i7 is a wise choice.

About 16GB RAM, I would go for 16GB RAM regardless if you want pick i5 or i7.
I hate when people answer with this but it depends on main use of build. If gaming is main focus then you should be fine with the i5 as gaming really doesn't benefit but at the max of 8fps in games like gta 5 which are cpu bound games. If I was in your spot I would spend that money and upgrade to 16gb of ram and make sure my psu was modular and high quality. I feel like the trade offs are as follows: With i7 you get better workstation based performance (editing, decoding, etc). With my option you get more ram which is always good and a cleaner system if your psu wasnt already a high quality one.

You should increase your RAM first as you will be playing games on 1080p
as of my experience core i5 is sufficient for gaming, until unless you do other things which require more CPU utilization

Wait, Wait I suggest you play at 1440p the 1080 will crush 1440p at max settings. If you are just gaming 6600k if you want to stream video edit etc then the hyper threading on the 6700k will help you.
