Hi

I'm considering a full system upgrade paced over the next few months or so. Could use some input on a CPU.

Currently considering a jump from i7 2600 (NOT K), to the new broadwell e i7 6800k.

I dont yet have motherboard and ram yet, but will be looking for something like Asrok Taichi (when released) with 16GB or ram to round off the system.
Likley to also upgrade to some m.2 SSD's like the samsung 950 sometime down the road, and a new GPU probably a 1070.

I'm currently gaming on a single 24" 1080p monitor (other two monitors mainly used for browsing and other apps). See specs below.

My aim with the upgrade is to give myself some future headroom for games like Star Citizen and other upcoming games over the next few years, at max settings etc, and a push up to a 2K gaming. Also VR is a consideration if prices come down enough within the next year or two.

So would broadwell E be a good answer?
Is it worth purchasing the CPU now? (slight concern that Brexit is going to push up prices in the UK, I can currently get the 6800k for £360 ish)
Any suggestions for an alternative solution?

CURRENT SPECS
MSI R9 290
750w PSU EVGA NexusB
Intel Core i7-2600 3.4GHz
Corsair H100i
8GB RAM (brand unkown )
ASRock P67 Extereme4 Motherboard
250GB kingston hyper x SSD for O/S and other programs
500GB EVO for games.
Phanteks Enthoo Luxe case
3x Acer S240HLbid 24'' Full HD widescreen LCD monitor with LED Backlight

I would just get the GPU and wait and see what's what with VR. No use buying in advance.

Hi

Yes, just for gaming. No plans for twitch streaming etc, rendering and so on.

Just gaming and browsing really.

Probs right about that, also 2k monitor upgrade probs wont happen until prices drop a bit.

Reckon ill upgrade at some point anyway, but wont be rushing into a CPU, MB, Ram upgrade just yet. Possibly put a bit more towards an decent GPU to seem me through.

Any issues with my CPU bottle-necking a 1070/1080?
Would it still be worth considering an SSD upgrade to something like OCZ RD400 via a PCIe card for games? I like the sound of it, but not sure if itls work with my system and be worth it generally...

Cheers to all who responded.
