Upgrading from GTX 770 to GTX 1070, also need to get a new motherboard. My issue is, my current CPU (i7-2600) has LGA1155 socket and the motherboards I am finding are not so good. Seems all the new ones carry the 1151 sockets. Any recommendations on which route would make more sense while staying on a moderate budget?

Solution
Yeah, a GTX 1070 would work just fine in that board. It would operate at a slightly slower PCIe 2.0 interface, but that wouldn't hurt performance at all considering that video card wouldn't even be able to saturate it at that speed, let alone 3.0.
I guess I'm having difficulty finding a gaming motherboard that would socket the i7-2600. I would be buying a GTX 1070 in combination, and new RAM. Any recommendations? Seems motherboards with this socket are being discontinued...

Why not just plug the 1070 into the motherboard you have now?

PCIe 2.0 x16 will work just fine. Just as fast (technically slightly faster) then PCIe 3.0 at 8x. Pretty much all the consumer grade boards support SLI at 8x/8x, plenty for a single card.

I've been stuck on google trying to figure this out, perhaps you or someone else can bring me into the light. My current motherboard is a
GIGABYTE Z68XP-UD3, can I slap a GTX 1070 into this?

My main objective is to run Battlefield 1 with improved graphics/performance.

Solution
Well this is certainly a better solution! I'll just get the GTX 1070 with my current board and hopefully sometime in the future when I'm ready to upgrade my CPU, I'll grab a new board to go with it. Thanks for the answers!
