Hi guys,

Looking to do my first build in about 10 years so a bit behind the time.

I had my heart set on a i5 6600k, but I have seen a good deal on a i7 4770K

I would primarily be gaming but also coding and a bit of video editing.

My question is do I go for the Haswell or the Skylake? I am a bit worried about future proofing the Haswell even though it's a great cpu.

Thanks

The single-core performance of the i5-6600K is probably better if you want to use it as a gaming machine - in most cases, the i5-series is the sweet spot for gaming.

The i7 will come into it's own in the more complex tasks such as video editing, with no impact on gaming.

Based on the price differential, you should decide what you want to do.
