Question i7 4770k temps

Hi guys,

I've been using i7 4770k @3.5 ghz for 4 years. With stock cooler.

It is 37~39°C idle but reaches 90°c while gaming.(frequency reaches 3.8ghz)

Is it normal with stock cooler?

I want to buy thermalright 120m rev.b
Or gammaxx 400(it doesnt have backplate. Can it cause motherboard vibration?)
Im not sure 120m can handle the cpu. Any ideas?
I must remove gpu and mb to install them because the chassis is too old.

Depends on your ambient temps.

The stock cooler isn't great, but should be keeping it a bit lower than 90'C assuming your ambient temp is reasonable (low-mid 20'C range).

Have you removed/reseated the cooler, cleaning dust and reapplying thermal paste?


The Gammaxx 400 uses push-pins, like the stock Intel cooler. Wouldn't be my preferred choice, but can't find any reports of it being an issue.

Either cooler would be capable enough - likely even ok for some moderate overclocks.

I changed the paste 6months ago. gammaxx 400 is about 0.6kg and with push pins may damage motherboard?
z87 k asus.

my the other choice is masterliquid lite 120 but Im not sure about temps.
