I7-4790 (non-K) overheating to 100 Degree Immediately after some CPU load.

Hi, I have an i7-4790 (non-K) with a stock cooler. I have a Gigabyte GA-H81M-S2H rev 1.0 motherboard.

When playing Overwatch, the CPU temps shoot up to 100 C at about 50% CPU load. This happens in the first 5 minutes of playing a game. I've searched these forums for some solutions but they are all related to the i7-4790K primarily (especially in regards to the Intel Xtreme Tuning instructions on how to fix this issue). My CPU idles at around 49 Degrees as well.
 
So far I've done the following:
1) Update my BIOS from version F1 to latest version F2.
2) Cleared CMOS
3) Checked for XMP Profiles, went through my BIOS and didn't see anything regarding XMP so I think either my RAM doesn't support it or my MOBO doesn't. Either way I don't think XMP is on as there is no way to turn it off.
4) Check to see if CPU fan is running properly. BIOS reports it at around 2000 RPM. Is this normal for a stock intel cooler?
 
Steps I need to do and need help with are the following:
1) Checking to see if my heatsink and CPU fan are installed correctly. I have no idea how to do this. I'd really prefer not to take apart my system but I will if need be. Just want to know the easiest and safest way about doing this.
2) Using Intel Xtreme Tuning utility. Downloaded off the Intel site a version of XTU. In the instructions given in the Intel sticky thread for the i7-4790K version, it says to check "CPU Total TDP". This information is not showing up on my XTU. If I press the little wrench button on the bottom right of the program window I can turn on "Package TDP", "Core TDP", and "Graphics TDP". Which one is equivalent to "CPU Total TDP"?? In any case, I want to try the XTU tuner steps but I don't even know about what settings to change. I believe that the non-k and k versions will have different settings that I am allowed to change. The instructions given in the Intel Sticky Thread are all i7-4790K related.
 
Can someone please help me out. This is a $350 dollar processor that is not overclocked and I am having some major issues.

I have the exact same CPU and I hadn't until recently played any demanding games like overwatch but I got the division and a new GPU(MSI GTX 970) and boom the temperature skyrockets to over 80c getting all the way to 91c at one point. I was still using the stock cooler but I bought myself a different one and now everything is fine. I idle around 28-33c and haven't gone above 55c while gaming. You might have to look around to find out which cooler is best for you but I got myself a coolermaster hyper 212 evo newegg had a deal going on that I just couldn't pass up lol.

I don't want to go with a buying more stuff to solve my problem solution just yet. Especially after seeing so many people online with over heating issues on an i7-4790k (this should indicate these problems could be affecting the non-k version too I assume). My CPU goes to 100 Degrees at 50% load. Who's to say with a new cooler and money spent I wont still be at 100 Degrees at 75% load. I assume that the stock cooler intel provided should at least get it to run to spec. All I want are temps under 100 Degrees @ load. I don't need temps @ 60 degress because I'm not overclocking.

Well 'm sorry my answer isn't what you were looking for mate, if you decide to get a new cooler you should know the cooler master hyper 212 evo is only $20-25 on newegg so you won't be out that much money. Temps under a 100c isn't what you should strive for either because anything over 80c is harmful to your PC. As far as the i7-4790k having heating issues that may or may not affect the non- k version, well that's a question I don't know the answer to and perhaps you should call intel customer service to find out more, if you truly believe it to be a problem with the CPU itself that is.

I almost forgot but If you've had the CPU for a while then replacing the therma past may be all you need to do, you still have to buy something but artic silver 5(A widely recommended past) is less than $10.

You say " I assume that the stock cooler intel provided should at least get it to run to spec" I forgot to mention last night but the stock cooler intel ships with our beloved i7-4790 is one of the worse. just take a look at this review done with multiple stock coolers http://www.anandtech.com/show/10500/stock-cooler-roundup-intel-amd-vs-evo-212/6 if you didn't already know the cooler on the i7-4790 is this one E97378-001 and it's awful.
