I7 4790 (non k) temperature ? 58-72c when playing GTAV

Are the following temps normal ?
Idle 38-42 c
When playing GTAV 58-72 c,and once it gets to the 70's it stays between 68-72c.
I have a corsair h80i with 2 fans and have it on full pump,but the fact that it's reaching 72c is getting me worried since the highest temp that i've noticed with other games BF4,CRYSIS3 on the same setup was 60c....(can't test with these games since i don't have them on my HDD no more)
Before noticing this,was playing GTAV and the system restarted randomly,which got me to use MSI AB to check my temps ,that's how i noticed that the CPU temp is reaching 70c,then right after that without playing at all,cleaned the fans and the h80i,maxed the fans speeds and ran GTAV for an hour,the temp reached max 72c,could that mean that at some point that random restart was caused because the temperature was more than 72c ?

The idle temps aren't too bad. But the gaming temps are too high.

Re-seat the CPU block - new thermal paste.

What Vcore are you running?

Your temps are fine for that processor.

CPU Core Voltage - get it from bios or from the utility software that came on a disk with your motherboard - or download it from your motherboard website.

Boot into bios (F2) and do a reset to safe defaults - just to make sure no-one has tried to overrcolock the CPU.

Also blow the dust out of the CPU cooler with compressed air.

Your CPU should be at 40C max on idle and 60C max while gaming.

I forgot to say that i have the system on OC profile XMP #1,but the thing is i've always had it on this profile for a year now,playing all kind of games and never reached this temp until now.
Did the cleaning thing right after noticing this.

I think you need to read the intel specs for this CPU. Max while idle is correct (although can fluctuate easily) but max temps while gaming is not.

So his temps are fine in the low 70's.

So. I'm saying to stay under that. I'm saying what temps should be achievable.

VERX: if your temps go over 80C while gaming then start to worry. You could run that processor at 75C 24/7/365 and not have issues. They don't start to downclock themselves until they hit like 105C. I have seen my i7 4790K hit 95C when running prime95 just to shock myself. It still works perfectly because I didn't let it run there for extended periods of time.

It could. Get the temp down and you don't have to worry about that.

Can't even use MSI AB to max my GPU's fans to pull some extra air since it crashes GTAV most of the time.

If that doesn't get the temps down then -

Re-seat the CPU block - new thermal paste. Or put a better CPU cooler on it eg CM Hyper 212 evo.

Hi Verx ,
i7baby is giving you good advice there , try removing the h80I and clean your cpu and the pump cpu surface with Isopropyl alcohol then re apply a new thermal compound such as arctic silver or a quality compound , also try blowing out radiator and fans as previously mentioned.
You may also look at airflow in your case and ensure you have adequate airflow to help dissipate heat aswell as intaking cool air.
You also may look at better fans for your radiator other than the stock fans for higher static pressure and increased airflow.
Failing these measures a better cpu cooler may be worth looking into , allow for cpu cooler height or radiator thickness and length ( Depending on your case )

also what are your system specs , the cpu may not be the cause of your game crashes , 72 degree's is not super high , not enough to warrant game crashes

Like I said, an i7 at 70C is NOT a problem and won't be. I have 4 of them, 2X i7 920 (3.8G), 1X i7 3770K (4.5G), 1X i7 4790K(4.5G). They were all overclocked from day 1 and I set them up to run at a max of 75C for 24/7 usage. Now they have all been running since purchase without BSOD issues so I think what I am telling him is right.
