It really depends on the GPU that you are getting and your entire build, if you are getting an i7 and a gtx 960 for gaming that is a horrible match, if you ar getting an i7 and a 980ti that is not a bad idea, what is your budget and what are you using this thing for, an i5 4460 or a xeon is really all you need for gaming.

It also depends on what motherboard you have, If you already have a z97 and a good CPU cooler then get a 4690k

Don't have a mobo yet but already have a fairly good one picked out (I think)

also I'm getting a 970 and maybe another one for sli in the future. And yes I know the 390 has a little better but I don't care.

you are awesome saying "i don't care" .. that motherboard is good and has great sound... there is one advantage to the 970 ans that is if you get a monitor with gsync It will support it.. and yes I know that AMD has freesync but I DONT CARE.
hahaha... no,. seriously i7-4790k that mobo with a 970 now and possibly another one sli later is great. .
but these issues are for another thread... besides more people will see your question if appropriately put in the correct forum in a new thread... PULL THE TRIGGER AND GAME ON MAN!!!!!!

that is extremely nice of you man..someone did that for me and that's what it all about.... keep the faith..

Rebates are what it's all about! I ordered my custom "Performance Rig" on Monday evening. And actually because of the fact I was ordering items that would give me $120+ in rebates (eventually), I was able to add that money into my spending, and I went from a GTX 960 to a GTX 970 - wound up with an MSI GeForce 970 GAMING 4G -- and let me say this because I feel it's important and relevant - I am not a gamer at all, really don't think I'll even try a game on my new machine and if so just for grins and testing it out. But I am sort of into the machines that can, and of course applying that capability and power into other things and hopefully productivity etc. SO WITH THAT IN MIND, a GTX 970 is a huge piece of kit for me.... I know the people who game game game and compete and put it on YouTube and Twitch etc. might not be content w/o a GTX 980 TITAN Twin-Turbo Carerra GTS Twin Frozr Armor-Coated Plasma-Blaster w/ Photonic Cannon defensive systems and helium cooler, but for me, the card I bought is most likely overkill already. BUT - anyway- I was able to get a big upgrade over the card I would have bought because of Rebates --- get them and fill them out and get that money, don't let the companies keep the rebates they firmly believe we will forget to fill out and send in etc.

Hey thanks a lot, I like people like you on these forums, but I already have every thing except GPU, CPU, and Mobo and I already know what I'm getting. Really thanks alot though:)

what is your budget for CPU, GPU and MOBO? A 4460 and an h97m anniversary paired with a GPU to fill up the rest of the budget is the way to go IMO, If you cant afford a 980ti but can afford an r9 390 paired with a xeon 1231 v3 and an h97m or a z97 and an i7 then go for that as the GPUs in-between the 980ti and the 390 are not that much better than a 390 and not worth it IMO. If your budget exceeds a 980ti then get a z97 and a 4790k.
