i7 4790 vs i7 4790k which is better for price & my needs?

Difference being the "k"cpu can overclock an the other cannot. Both are good, the k one is better but only if you overclock it. Which youd need a motherboard that supports overclocking like Z97. Also a decent aftermarket cpu cooler to overclock it.

ouch, 70 bucks just to hope you can oc it ?? so far all my non ''k'' chips do a fine job and then with ocing it all your own risk and stability or anything is never guaranteed . 70, bucks intel sees you coming a mile away [4790k is 339 art egg a 35 buck diff over the non k ]

Stock clock speeds:

i7 4790 (Haswell)
Base Clock Speed: 3.6 GHz
Turbo Clock Speed: 4.0 GHz

i7 4790K (Devil's Canyon - a.k.a. Haswell Refresh)
Base Clock Speed: 4.0 GHz
Turbo Clock Speed: 4.4 GHz

A 23% price difference for only a 10%~11% performance difference.

i7-6700K does not come with a stock heatsink & fan so you can add $20-30 for a cooler to that cost.

Additionally with the choice of an LGA1151 processor you will have to jump to a Intel 100 Series chipset. Typically these use DDR4 so if you are trying to reuse your RAM this may factor into your decision.

If you already have an existing system (DDR3) you likely would already have a cooler.

'' i have a Z97 motherboard but for my needs do i really need to overclock? and i won't buy another mobo and rams just for a 6700k and waste more money '

I don't use ''K'' chips and all do a great job with my ''Z'' boards [i5 4670 ] if like me and don't care about overclocking a non ''K'' chip will do all you ask like I said above nothing is guaranteed when overclocking or stability anyway may oc good then may not at all stable ? that's all your risk

then '' and i won't buy another mobo and rams just for a 6700k and waste more money '

but you choose that as best answer ??
