I just got my new i7-4790K and I decided to do some benchmark. My i7-4790K idle at 36*C but when it's on load, it raise up to 80*C at 76% load and around 87*C around 100% load. I have replace the thermal paste twice and still get the same result. I can't play CS:GO, Battlefield 4, Crysis 3 and Tomb Raider without it hitting more than 76*C and when I do 3D rendering. It hit around 87*C at 95+ load. Please help.

My PC Spec:
Case: NZXT Guardian 921 RB Blue
Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140MM Blue LED
CPU: i7-4790K (Stock at 4.0GHz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper N520
Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X- UD3H-BK
RAM: HyperX Fury 8GB 1866MHz Blue
GPU: MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G Red (Stock)
PSU: Antec 620W 80+ Bronze
SSD: Samsung 840 120GB
HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB

Sorry for my horrible grammar.

I did, not too much thermal paste now and this case isn't the best airflow, but my old FX 6300 run just fine below 70*C at 100% load and 30*C at idle.

I clean my PC every months and so I don't think that's the case for the temp to raise so high.

Performance wise most are very similar. However if you do not apply it properly it won't perform as expected. Always apply the paste as per the manufactures instructions, not a random article on the internet with a different paste being used.

Anyway does your motherboard overvolt the CPU when it boost to 4.4 GHz under load? I turned that (the overvolting during boost) off today and it dropped the load temps significantly (From 68c - 75c. to 55c - 58c) with no performance impact.

It might overvolt, I'm not sure. Can you guide me through the step for undervolt it?

in this stage you will need a better airflow in the case or get an watter cool cooler if you wanna overclock if dont let the cpu as it is
