case has two fans in front and one in back. I just cleaned all dust from fans and case etc a few weeks ago. Before I installed the H7 just now, I was getting up to 65 degrees idle on very hot days with no AC using the stock intel cooler. Today is a bit cooler but still probably 90 Fahrenheit in this room but I'm getting 51 degrees after H7 installed.
When I restart and show bios (since I don't have a CPU temp program, that's the only way I check), it shows 42 degrees for a second then goes up to and stays at 50 or 51 or 53.
Before I installed the H7 I just had the stock intel cooler and was getting as low as 58 which isn't good but I'm only getting 53 with the H7 right now.

I was told it should be around 20 - 35 degrees idle.

I used artic silver paste, a very thin layer and installed the H7 nice and snug. I don't understand. Maybe I damaged the CPU by using it up to 65 degrees just idling? It must have gotten even hotter than 65 but I don't have a CPU temperature program to check anything except idle at restart.

If it's 32C in your room, you were *never* going to get 20-35C idle.

And use a CPU temperature program - this is all a pointless exercise without. There are a million free ones like hwmonitor. If you can't measure what your CPU is doing at load, you're missing a lot of crucial information.

If you're truly 50 at idle, that's hotter than ideal at idle for sure, but you will always be on the hot side with a room that blistering hot. You can't expect to get the same temperatures with a 32 degree room as an 18 degree room. And there are a lot of other factors like the air flow and the fans in your case.

I have an i7-3770K at 4.4GHz, but without any voltage changes and in IDLE with a better cooler (Noctua NH-D14) and warm room (almost 30degC) I am getting low 40's C (roughly fluctuating on cores between 40 and 46degC with just Google Chrome running).

That's with 2x Noctua intake fans, 1x exhaust running all roughly 700RPM and the CPU Noctua fan running about 700RPM.

*My ASUS Thermal Radar program stopped reporting temperatures correctly though. No idea why but HWMonitor is still working.

So I'd be in the low 50's with a cooler like the H7.

thanks everyone.

yea I took the plastic off the H7 before touching it to the thermal paste.

It cooled down now is about 77 F outside 10:45 pm Two windows open with 1 window fan blowing in. But I just booted up it's 48 C idle. 3 degrees cooler than before but room is probably still hotter than outside even with the fan. But if you say this is to be expected, then ok. 48 or 51 is MUCH better than 65 with the stock cooler.
I wouldn't expect a miracle with the H7 anyway now that I sort of understand coolers, even though the stock intel cooler is garbage, the H7 is not like it's a liquid cooler or anything, it's just a bigger fan and bigger grill.

I was going to install a CPU temperature monitoring program but was afraid of possible spyware etc in free stuff but I just looked into HWMonitor seems to be safe as long as you don't check for Updates might be affiliates with spyware someone made a thread about. I want to see what temps I get when actually not just idling the PC.
