So there has been a lot of debate between overall performance between the i7 4790k and i7 6700k cpu's and which one takes the cake. I understand as far as a pricing avenue that with the 6700k you will end up spending more money on upgrading to an 1151 socket type, ddr4 ram whereas most of us are at the socket 1150 and only need to upgrade our cpus. Does anyone know which CPU is better for gaming or if there is even much of a difference? I have seen the 6700k for around $200 USD, and the 4790k for around 320. Can someone enlighten me on this issue?

Solution
If you are already on 1150, just get the 4790k as teh perfromance is marginal at best.
If you are buying new, get the 6700k for the better platform/features.
Where have you seen the i6 6700k for $200? That price is too low to be legit.

The 6700k is technically more capable, but the truth is both i7s are about even overall. It would literally come down to overclocking potential.

If you are already on the LGA1150 platform, you shouldn't even be considering upgrading to LGA1151 IMO. You would not notice a difference.

Yeah I have seen some of those 6700k CPUs sell for $200, dont know if it was just luck that the buyer snagged it before anyone else realized it...but, yeah I am sticking with the 1150 socket for now and will go for the i7 4790k. What is a fair price for that cpu?
