Hi,

I currently have an i3 4160 and I am planning to upgrade to an i7 because the i3 just isn't cutting it for recording and rendering gameplay/ videos. However the 4790k is £330 whereas the 7700k is £270. I don't understand this as the 7700k was released much later. If there is not a huge difference between the two (from what I have read), then why is there such a price difference, with the older one being more expensive?

Thanks for any help,

Solution
The 4790K is no longer in production, so the supply is much less than the 7700K hence the higher price. I would say get the 7700K if you don't mind upgrading your motherboard and RAM.
the older one is rarer, supplies are limited, and they know that you have to get a new mobo and ram to get to a 7700k, so they can afford to charge more because that segment of the market will need that particular process or have to pay more for a new system.

The i7-4790K includes an Intel stock heatsink and fan. The i7-7700K does not include a cooler (a stock Intel cooler would add around £35 to the price). The i7-4790K isn't being made anymore so supply is limited. I have seen the i7-7700K on sale a lot lately, most likely to clear out stock, in preparation for the launch of the new Coffee Lake processors in 3 days.
