My parts are as follows:
Fractal Define R4, a special version which has more insulation, the top and side fan mounts are closed. One 140mm fan at the front, one 140mm fan at the back.
MSI 970 4G, it doesn't run the fan at idle.
G Skill 2133 MHz CL9, which also runs at that speed in the bios.
ASUS Z97 Pro
i7 4790k, stock speeds, turbo mode at 1.168v
BeQuiet Dark Rock 3
Seasonic X 650 in Hybrid Mode

---------
I'm measuring the temperatures with RealTemp 3.7 and CPUID HWMonitor, I'm monitoring the fan speeds with ASUS Dual Intelligent Processors 5, Temps are off by 10°C under load.

Temperatures are as follows:
Idle
CPU 35-50°C at 450rpm to 600rpm, CH3&4 500-600rpm
Motherboard 32°C
GPU without the Fan an is around 40-50°C

Load, I encode a file with Handbrake which sets the cpu usuage to 100%, I ran the test for 3mins.
CPU avg 70°C at 1230 rpm Max was 76°C. The rpm as well as the temperatures are a bit off in the ASUS suite, 100% is set at 2200 rpm. I guess that the real max of the cooler is 1400 rpm at that speed.
The other temperatures stay the same while testing.

I did the same test with all the 3 fans at 100%, it is only a 2-3 deegrees less on avg.

While gaming I get 60-70°C and at fans 100% 50-65°C.

I expect the temperatures a bit higher because of the insulation of the case and the low fan speeds that I set. However I'm still a bit worried whether those temperatures are alright. I have checked the cooler twice, in fact I unmounted it and tighten all the screws, checked the thermal paste and everything seemed alright. The cores run relatively even on temperatures, all are within 1-2°C, Core 0 is the exception with about 3-4°C.

I know that everything under 80°C is fine, but I still expected it to run a bit cooler. I appreciate all advice.

Thank you

Thank you for your reply, I tried to be as detailed as possible. I ran your test and followed the instructions. I removed the side covers and opened the front panel for optimal air flow. I turned the 3 fans to 100% and started the test. I have attached pictures, I guess that's the easiest way to look at the results.
Ambient temperature is 20°C

I guess the temperatures are just fine? However with the case closed I can imagine hitting close to 80 max. Should I consider putting an additional 140mm at the front or an additional cpu fan? Perhaps return the Dark Rock 3 and buy the Pro 3 version.

The Dark Rock 3 is supposed to be a very good cooler so I'm not sure if the temps should be lower with a cooler like this. Not just if the CPU temps are fine in general, it is important to know whether or not the CPU temperatures are normal with this cooler when it's properly mounted.

This is a test of the cooler with the 4770k. They were able to achieve http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/beQuiet/Dark_Rock_3/6.html slightly better results with a CPU that is supposed to run hotter.
