I've just taken out my temporary GT630 and installed the GTX1080 and when I boot I get 'CPU OVER TEMPERATURE'. I've managed to get into the BIOS quickly enough to see that the CPU temp is 94c on boot...

My specs are;

i7 5820K @ 4.125Ghz
Asus X99 MB
GTX1080 FE
64GB DDR4 Vengeance LPX
H100i GTX CPU Cooler
HX1200i PSU

System has been running fine, as soon as I install the 1080, I get this error. Tried putting the temp GT630 back in and no luck. H100I GTX Radiator has 4 x 120mm fans exhausting and the case has 5 x 140mm fans too (Case is Corsair AF540). Couple of days ago I replaced the thermal paste on the cpu and installed the h100i again, been running fine and cool.

Al fans are running, Corsair LED is on the cooling block, all fans working, water tubes are vibrating.

Any ideas?

edit: It's just booted into Windows for a couple of seconds and then bluescreened (no error message). Tried booting again, no splash screen, turns itself off. Presumable for protection.

I've cleared the CMOS. So, I leave it to cool for 5 minutes and it boots. I got into the BIOS and the CPU Temp is 71c, I then watch it slowly creep up to 80c and it shuts down. Motherboard temperature was about 23c.

interesting. are you sure its not a monitor error?
i know that a lot of times the thermal probes may malfunction.
that is pretty interesting though, i see that its overclocked....... have you tried underclocking it to see if that helps?

I've reset the CMOS so the BIOS has reset. CPU Clock speed is now down from 4.125 to 3.3GHz (Stock) and RAM is no longer on the XMP profile.

ok. have you removed the chip from the socket?
check for any damage to the pins on the cpu and the motherboard.
also remove the motherboard battery and put it back in.
put everything back together and see if that works.

I haven't removed the CPU from the socket yet. I've tried loosening and tightening the cooling block screws to ensure they're all level and taught. Reckon its worth remove the CPU? I've just recently changed cases and re-installed the h100i with new thermal paste.

edit: I've already said in the post and video that I've reset the CMOS by removing the button battery. The Motherboard pins were bent on the original arrival of the Motherboard. I RMA'd it and the board was fine, CPU has not been removed since then and has ran fine.

well. this is interesting.

It's more frustrating for me haha. Is there any indication in the BIOS that the H100I GTX Pump is working correctly?

Okay thanks mate, appreciate your time.

Just before I do that, I've tried plugging the 3-pin connector for the H100I GTX Pump into the CPU_FAN header on the board. When I boot, it says 'CPU FAN ERROR' and I get no CPU fan in the BIOS Being registered. I think it might be the H100i Pump that has failed and isn't cooling the CPU at all.

edit: No I don't have access to the CPU yet, it's still in the system.

that could be it. we are checking with intel.

My 5820K didnt come with a stock cooler, might be able to get hold of a stock one soon though. Will try that if I can.

it is most likely the cooler. but try no GPU, one stick of ram, and no hdds or ssds. and if that doesn't work than wait for another cooling solution or until intel contacts me back.

No unfortunately nobody I know has one for the 2011-v3 Socket. I've called Scan Computers and they have agreed to replace my H100i GTX tomorrow free of charge as Corsair have 5 years warranty. I'll get back to you tomorrow after I've replaced it. Thanks again for your help.

I've replaced the cooler today with a brand new H100i GTX v2, everything is working correctly again! Booting into a cool 22c instead of 70+.... turns out the pump had failed on the old H100i GTX. I've picked your solution as the answer as you suggested a new cooling solution and spent time helping me.

Thanks.

Awesome!
