Hi, I am looking to build a gaming PC for around June time, and I am looking at comparing these 2 CPU's. I have an apprenticeship, and therefore have no worry about price, I am just looking at performance alone for mostly gaming, and video editing/rendering. Thanks

As Joseph says above, decide on how many video cards you want to use first. If the number is 3, then your only choice here is the 17-5820.

If you are only going to use 2 video cards, you can use either chip. If this is the case, as far as games go, both chips should be very similar in FPS. But the I7-5820 will render faster than the i7-4790.

X99 boards for the I7-5820 will also come with 28 PCIe 3.0 lanes 4 memory channels.
Z97 boards for the I7-4790 only has 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes, and 2 memory channels.

Since video cards would like at least 8 PCIe 3.0 lanes, you would use all of the available lanes with 2 video cards on a Z97 board. On the X99 board you would have 4 lanes left over after installing 3 video cards.

For single or dual GPU builds, the 4790k will be faster out of the box since it has much higher base clock speeds and games don't really use more than eight threads. The 5820k, however, can easily be overclocked as long as you have a decent motherboard and PSU.
