So, I built a system (i7 5930k 3.5Ghz, no overclock, LGA2011, Asus X99-A) and the cooling I'm getting with two different heatsink/fan combos isn't nearly where I'd like it to be. 90+ C when running prime95. Ouch. Around 40 when idle. Anyway....

What I have now is one of the circular stock cooler types, that vents straight up from the MB. It fits nicely, but doesn't seem to do a great job (see above). I also have a Cooler Master Hyper T4. This seems only slightly better, but interferes with the side fan and mounts on the case. It's too tall. I don't really have a problem with it interfering with the RAM, however. If I get one of the stand-up types, I'd need something that's maybe max 5.5 inches tall. The T4 is a bit over 6. I don't see any that are much under that.

There's the possibility of liquid cooling, like with the Corsair H100. However, if it's any thicker than the dual 120mm case fans that are at the top of the case now, it probably won't work. I assume the thickness is fans plus radiator. The space between the existing fans and the CPU MB power connector is close to zero.

So really the only type that seems to fit well is one with the heatsink right on the CPU, venting vertically with respect to the MB, no pipes up to a fan/sink combo (unless there's a shorty out there somewhere). Unless there's a shorter vertical cooler, or a slimmer liquid cooler?

Maybe a reapplication of the thermal paste might be in order - and perhaps better paste? The stuff I have now is DeepCool Z9. There may be too much of it?

Thoughts?

Thanks....

After having got my NZXT Kraken x61 I would definitely recommend it, also since money seems to be no issue with you. The radiator is also 27mm thick with the sweet fans being 25mm thick for a total of 52mm. Although it is 140 x 280mm it might not fit your case etc etc. If it does I would get that as it cools GREAT. Regarding the paste most pastes from Arctic are excellent, I use the MX-2 one from personal preference.
