i7 6700k Concerning Temps (AT STOCK!)

So I've just upgraded to a i7 6700k and I'm running everything at stock clocks. I have a Kraken x31 AIO but I think my temps are a bit higher than usual.

While playing games like Fallout 4 and GTA V, my cpu will peak at around 72c, but running something like RealBench will only result in a 58-60c max. It's quite cold here at the moment, and my temp idles at around 15-22, I even saw a core hit 8c this morning on RealTemp.

But what's caught my attention is actually the voltage that's being given the the CPU, in the bios it says 1.344v which is a fair bit considering I haven't touched any overclocking settings, could this be the reason my temps are hitting so high?

that core will not have really been at 8C, it cannot be below ambient.

Yes, every monitoring program I've used all report similar temps. Realtemp, HWMonitor... etc.

Then a sensor is defective because it can't idle at 15°C unless the ambient temperature is around 5°C.

I doubt it, I've seen temps in the teens before other PC's of mine years ago during the winter months. I'm talking about when I turn the PC on after a cold night, but like i said it's very brief and mostly idles at around the 20's.

My build is new, I'm using a brand new Maximus VIII Formula board.

It won't be at ambient temperature even in the BIOS because it has warmed up by several degrees by the time you get to the hardware monitor screen; once the OS is loaded it will be at least 7-10°C warmer than ambient. If you see temperatures at or below ambient, then they are incorrect; a Kraken x31 AIO simply can't cool at or below ambient temperature.

I also get low idle temps on a 6600k. My room is around 20C and I get 24-26c at idle. So are we saying these are wrong and that we should add at least 5C onto these? That makes the max temp even higher.

I think the i7 temp is OK but I would make sure I have the latest bios and load the default settings. It may be that your cooler just can't cope with the heat during gaming.

Yours are fine; the OP reports idle temperatures at or below ambient which is impossible. 4-6°C above ambient is plausible with a good cooler and all energy saving features enabled once the OS is loaded (they'll be higher than that in the BIOS, but that's normal). Idle temperature at or below ambient is impossible with a standard cooler.

Full load temperatures are far more important than idle.
