Hey guys,
I'm about to build a new pc, so I'm testing a few builds and trying to choose the best. I ended up to two builds. 1) i7 4790k and gtx 980 or i7 6700k and r9 390x. Which one will provide me a better gaming experience and which one will be more "futureproof". (I may collect some money and buy an i7 6700k with a gtx 980). Thank you.

Doesn't it support DDR3?

Admirable

Because the Haswell 4790k will continue to be a valid and completely adequate gaming platform for years to come, if it is a choice of where to put your money for gaming performance, I'd say go with it and the best possible single graphics card you can justify now. The item, for gaming, that will give you the most 'futureproof' ability is surely the GPU. The Fury X, water cooled out of the box (if that's important to you) for $650, is a great choice too...

Hmm...I don't know HOW that MB can use DDR3, when all DDR3 is running at 1.5V. Except for SO-DIMM DDR3L.
And if you run DDR3 with Skylake...it will break the cpu's Memory Controller due to high voltage.
DDR4 and DDR3L runs at around 1.35V. So if you run DDR3 which is running at 1.5V, you will break the Memory Controller.

Otherwise you need to downclock the DDR3 by lowering voltage.

EDIT: I just found out that there is regular DDR3L...but it is expensive Server memory.

Trust me, I would love to get the Fury X GPU but it's pricey. I will have to collect a lot more money to go for it. Well since the i7 6700k supports only DDR3L, my only option is the 4790k, so I will have a second thought about the Fury x. It is more preferable and better than the GTX 980ti, isnt it?

It is only SLIGHTLY better at 4K than 980Ti.
Otherwise 980Ti beats in everything.

And how much in comparison it costs?
Either way, it kind of defeats the purpose...with 4790k you could use DDR3 2133/2400Mhz.

WHOOAH, there is a 100euros difference between those two. And 200euros difference between the GTX 980 that I was about to buy, so I'm going for the Fury X. (No need to pay that much money, it isn't really worth it for me)

That should help you decide what gpu to go with.

Well it costs 90 euros which is cheap, however if I save money from the CPUs I will be able to buy the Radeon Fury X.

I've just watched a benchmark between those two, and the conclusion is that the Fury X is slightly better than the GTX 980. (on 1080p) It outperforms the GTX 980 in every game, sometimes for 1-2 FPS sometimes for 10-20 FPS. I will definitely go for Fury X.

Well call me cheap, miserly or however you like, but I dont consider a 100euros difference as a small bargain, especially now that the crisis hit Greece hard.

The price difference really depends of country. In some, the 980Ti is cheaper. In some the Fury X is a lot cheaper.
In some they are the same.

In your case, the Fury X is indeed probably the best option.

Sorry, I'm just familiar with U.S. card pricings, I know prices vary drastically depending on country. In your case then, the Fury X is a worthy purchase.

SERIOUSLY? :'( Because of the capital controls I'm unable to purchase stuff from abroad, which annoys me a loooot. (In Greece things are expensive) I cant even buy games on steam, they don't accept Greek PINS, and I've lost so many gaaaaames that I love. I've just visited the American AMAZON, why are stuff there sooooo cheaaaaap. That's pretty unfair hehe.

Different currency for one thing in the U.S. And simply economies. I know Greece is having a rough time economically. America took a hit in 2008 also, but has been recovering well.
