Hello guys
Am again stuck with a dilemma between this two system:-
I7 6700k
H110 Mobo
8gb ddr4

I7 4790k
Gigabyte z97x gaming 5
Corsair vengeance 16gb ddr3
Cooler master seidon 120v

I have a zotac GTX 980 ti amp edition and corsair tx 650m

I found the both of them for a good deal but the i7 6700k is $60 more expensive, the i7 6700k perform much better especially in games, but the z97 can also overclock the gpu and cpu but at a cost of more power consumption and risk.I also saw that the i7 4790k doesn't make any improvement in gaming when oc,so,will oc only the gpu match the i7 6700k at the cost of power consumption and risk???? And which one will be a better deal and future proof???is the $60 worth it????am really confuse and need help

Solution
It's a difficult one, might pay to keep looking. There actually isn't that much difference in the gaming performance between the two, the 6700K only has a small edge really. Why this strike me as a tough call though is although the 6700K is the better CPU choice and the H110/DDR4 combo is the newer platform the older machine wins on every other count, more RAM, better cooling, OC ability.

A "K" edition CPU on an H110 board is an odd choice, why put an overclockable CPU on a board that doesn't support overclocking.

Right now I think you are better off waiting for the i5 8xxx series to get more affordable/available or going for a Ryzen 5 or 7.
An i5 8400 on a budget motherboard when they become available is shaping up to be THE budget...

If the 6700k performs much better then I would get that even if it abit more expensive If you have the budget then go for it!. But if you want to save abit off money go for the 4790k!

The 4790K is just a bit too old to recommend but looks better than the 6700k system thanks to the points mentioned earlier.
An i5 8400, 8600K, i7 8700k would be better or one of the Ryzen 5 or 7 models that comes with a cooler. Depends on budget and availability of course.

On the other hand any of these systems should be ok to play games for the next few years without much issue.

Solution
On the same clock, those two perform exactly the same.
out of the box, 4790K is clocked higher. also, 4790K can be overclocked to 4.5 - 5GHz depending on your cooler and luck.
Also with H110 board, the RAM speed is limited to 2133MHz, on z97 you can overclock to much higher values 2666-2866
so between those two, 4790K has way more potential.

Performance wise you really won't see that much difference between the 4790k and the 6700k... however your system will be more future proof with the 6700k because you'll have ddr4 memory. Therefore you can upgrade the processor in the future without replacing everything. The 4790k runs on DDR3.
