i7 7700k cooling issues

hey guys i could really use some help because I don't know anymore, is the i7 7700k just a REALLY hot cpu or what? I through an old Cooler Master v8 on it and the temps were retarded high, 60c IDLE and 100c on just playing ONE GAME. Not even high load, at first I thought it was the cooler since it was really old like back in 2010 so I bought the Be Quite! Pure Rock bk009. The temps got better but they are still really high now 35-40c on idle and 70-80 playing just one game. I thought I might have installed these coolers wrong but I know I didn't. The only way I can get them to a respectable temp is if I underclock from 4.2 to 3.8 but I get noticeable fps drop when I do that. I thought I would be able to do a little overclocking with this fan but I have to underclock so I dont have that constant worry in the back of my mind about the high temps. Is air flow cooling not an option on these hot ass cpus? Do I really have to spend $150+ on a really high end liquid cooler?

The 7700K IS a hot cpu. From my own experience and also from reading various posts here in the past, the following is what seems to be the normal for that CPU.

1. Idle temps should be around 10C above ambient temp.
2. Load temps should normally be around 60-70C in games and can go as high as 75-85C under max load when doing a stress test.
3. On my own computer, the above temps are what i get with a somewhat beefy Corsair H115 water cooler. It should be noted that i have enabled MCE so it will run 4,5 GHz on all cores.

They do run hot however, no offense, but you did pick two lower performing air coolers relatively speaking. That being said they are not awful coolers either. Which leads me to believe you have another issue, like poor air flow in your case, or improper thermal compound application, etc. What kind of case do you have? Where is your case located is it able to get fresh air? However the other major piece of the puzzle here is what is your ambient temp?

I air cool my 7700k, in stock form it running Cinebench max temp was 65 C, latest Prime95 max heat test was 81 C. After delidding (which I don't recommend), those temps were 53 C / 62C. However I'm using a NH-D15, which is much larger than either of your coolers.

Actually it is such a hot CPU Intel recommends to not overclock their overclocking CPU. The i7 7700K is the biggest CPU joke in recent history besides the spectre/meltdown debacle. Intel uses TIM on those and it really really shows. Also why so many folks delid them.

70-80s under load are not that bad with that cooler, depending on the voltage offset of course. If you are using Auto voltage offset for your OC, i suggest you try manual and drop the voltage by small increments until you notice instability. That should drop the temps

ambient temp is about 72 f, and my case is the NZXT - S340. my pc sits under my desk which has plenty of room, by no means is it suffocated. so i dont think those are any issues, and yes, i applied the thermal paste correctly. i dont even want to do overclocking thats why i didnt ball out the the cpu cooler but i was going to test it and if i could get something that would have been cool but stock runs more than great for me.

I guess i'm just going to accept it being a hot cpu and if it dies, it dies and ill go back to my i5 7500 smh tired of stressing over temps im just gonna ignore it at this point
