i7-7700k wont wake up after hibernation/sleep

Hi guys!

My PC (i specifically suspect CPU) wont wake up from hibernation and sleep.
It responts to input and starts up but after a few seconds it idle and CPU led lights up on the motherboard. The screen shows no input - cant even get to BIOS.
Had this problem before but fixed it by enabling C-states in BIOS, however right now the C-states are enabled but it wont wake up.

My system specs:
CPU: i7-7700k clocked @ 5.0 ghz / 1.32V (for cooling im using H105 - max tem around 82 on full load in Aida64)
Motherboard: ASUS Z270 TUF MARK 1
GPU: MSI GTX 1070 ARMOR 8G OC
RAM: 8 gb dual channel corsair vengeance CL 15 @ 3000 Mhz
PSU: Seasonic X-850 (SS-850KM) ( i have been experiencing wierd coil whine from the PSU ( sounds like an old harddrive clicking noise)
SSD (where windows 10 is located): Samsung PRO 850, 256gb
HHD: WD black 1 tb



Please halp! No idea what could be causing the problem!


 
Thanks for quick replies. Right now powersavings are never sleep never hibernate. Maximum productivity.
Sometimes id rather have it sleep/hiberante than keep turning it on or off especially when i have a lot of work projects on it that i dont want to find scattered infor for ( i do save files :))

regarding powersupply - its new! Apparently its one of the componenets thats making it noisy... since i powered a different build with it with similar load and there was no problems!
 


even though its new i would try going into the BIOS to disable the C states just to see if that will let your computer wake up from sleep mode. i never use sleep or hibernation mode on my desktop and setup a screensaver

 
Kaby lake introduced some new lower power c states.
Your symptoms are that your psu does not support one of them.
Try turning off some of the higher the c states in your bios and see if that fixes the problem.

What happens is that upon wake, the power supply does not handle the c state and shuts the cpu off.
The X850 is an excellent psu and I think it should be haswell ready, so perhaps you have a psu issue worthy of rma.
 


It was my understand that he had the problem with them disabled and enabling them was one of the troubleshooting steps taken. The PSU is haswell ready:

Seasonic lists these units as "ready for Intel's Haswell processors," although it doesn't go into much detail beyond that:

X-series: 560W, 660W, 760W, 650W, 750W, 850W, 1050W, 1250W
X-series Fanless: 400W, 460W
Platinum Series: 660W, 760W, 860W, 1000W, 1200W
Platinum Series Fanless: 400W, 460W, 520W
G-Series: 360W, 450W, 550W, 650W
M12II Bronze: 650W, 750W, 850W

tho in my experience, with a discrete GPU installed, the system never gets to a low enough power state even when PSU is not "Haswell ready".


 
I am suspecting the psu.
The coil whine is problematic and possibly an indicator of other issues.
I recently had a bout of similar non wake symptoms.
It was only resolved by using a newer gen psu that was haswell ready.
Seasonic is normally tops for quality, but sometimes bad products escape quality control.
I would contact Seasonic and likely ask for a rma.

By fixing one problem by enabling c states, it suggests to me that the issue revolves around c states and the psu.
Not the cpu.
There are about 6 c states. Experimenting with disabling some of them might get some results.
 
So i tried turning C-states on and off once again but no progress - cpu still wont wake up, CPU LED on.

Realisticallу, i can live without hibernation and sleep modes but i just feel that this problem could be an indicator of something worse - i.e. along with coil whine - problems with PSU.

im going to try using a different PSU just to see if that solves the problem.

I also have a 7700k on a TUF Z270 Mark 2 with Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz RAM, and I have the same problem waking my computer since updating my BIOS. If I disable the X.M.P. profile, the problem goes away. I set by hand the following:

DRAM Frequency = 2900MHz
CAS# Latency = 15
RAS# to CAS# Delay = 17
RAS# ACT Time = 35

By dropping the speed to 2900MHz, my computer wakes up reliably.
 
After additional wrestling with the system, I was able to get it to wake up reliably with the X.M.P. profile enabled, so long as I manually set the following:

DRAM Voltage = 1.39v
CPU VCCIO Voltage = 1.05v
 
sleep just seems to do this sometimes, i had this issue with my 6600k and now my 7700k. if the pc is allowed to enter sleep on its own it will occasionally refuse to wake up displaying a memory error code. i think what happens is that sometimes the ram doesnt get the power it should. if i put the pc to sleep myself theres no issue.
 
After much testing, I have found the memory to be most stable with X.M.P. enabled, and the DRAM Voltage dropped to 1.29v. At any higher voltage I would get memory test errors, and Prime95 would fail. Seems a bit strange to have to drop voltage on the DRAM, but it has been working flawlessly since, and it wakes every time now.
 


Can confirm that setting the DRAM Voltage to 1.29v and the VCCIO to 1.05v while leaving the XMP profile enabled fixed the wake from sleep problem as in the OP, haven't done any stress testing yet to see if it's stable. The DRAM Voltage didn't seem to make a difference by itself but the sleep issue went away when I set the VCCIO to 1.05

Also have a TUF Z270 Mark 2 with Corsair Vengeance LPX (Though it's 3200MHz, not 3000MHz) and the problem only arose after I updated the BIOS like you said.

I don't know a whole lot about what these voltages do - is it safe to leave these so low? The VCCIO was at 1.24v on Auto, 1.05v seems like a big drop.
 
Cpus vary, it's in the nature of the silicon per batch. Intel is known for setting auto voltages high, just to cover any possible voltage needs across the entire series of batches. But thats not to say that your individual cpu necessarily needs that much.
