[SOLVED] i7 8700k or i7 9700k? Mainly for gaming

Hello,

I am about to upgrade my CPU to either an i7 8700k or an i7 9700k. Primarily for gaming (Battlefield 5). I have 16 gigs of RAM, GTX 1080, and run games at 1440p, 144hz. Which one do you recommend? The 9700k doesn't seem to have hyperthreading, is that a con?

Ok, so for gaming I'd get the 9700K, while the 8700K has more threads the two additional cores on the 9700K would be better for gaming, especially that you should be able to get a slightly higher overclock on the 9700K then the 8700K.

I think you mean Z390X? The 2XX series don't support 8th/9th gen Intel. Anyways if it worked fine with the 8350K then it will work fine with the 9700K, just make sure the BIOS is up to date to support that CPU.

No it can't. The highest CPU your motherboard is compatible with is the i7 7700k

I could be wrong but I believe you need at least a Z370 (or Z390) chipset for the 8700k (and higher)

I see what you're saying. He listed the wrong motherboard....unless he has an i3 7350k
