I am upgrading/replacing my motherboard because of its D E D, Dead. I am going from a z370 ASRock Extreme 4 to the ASRock z390 Gaming 6. One thing I noticed is that the CPU power supply went from an 8 pin on my Z370 to an 8 with 4 CPU power connector. I have been reading that this is for extra power in OC, but could this also be causing random loss of power issues with my old motherboard?

I also have an EVGA 1000 silver Power Supply with the modular cable system, would I just need to use an extra CPU cable that is a 4+4 for the other 4 pin ATX?

Solution
No some boards only came with the single 8 pin because it's all they needed.

The 8+4 boards can usually just use the 8 pin but you can use the 4+4 for the 4 pin so why not use it.

I'm using the 8 and 4 pin on my board.
