I7 930

damn i just purchased i7 920 around feb 10th and about to receive my computer today by ups
only to realize that the i7 930 is going to be replacing the i7 920 and is coming out end of the month 🙁

You wont be missing out on too much. The 930 will be almost the same however it will be using a 32nm process. It will make less heat/use less energy and might be cheaper. But, performance wise, not too much change and it wont be on the market until manufacturers have finished off their supply of 920s.

ok that will make me feel better i'll live with it since i know every time there's something new that coming out by the time that comes out then ther's something else that's about to come out and the cycle will never stop :/

There is nothing saying the 930 will be 32nm. It is more likely that it will simply be a C2 stepping, maybe C3, of the 45nm chip we've all known and loved.

You're fine with your 920. I just got mine 2 weeks ago, and it overclocks to 4.2Ghz with only 1.275V core voltage. I don't believe the 930 will overclock any better.

Better steppings do usually increase overclocking potential, however, the 920 at 4.2ghz is beast. If your deal is gaming, the CPU is not the culprit to low fps

it took me a full 3 days of playing around with things to get it where I wanted it.

It would definitely be nice to see a cheaper i7 930 (200-270$) and 32 nm with a better turbo boost like the i5 750 has.
That would really give the 750 some more competition and I would definitely purchase it if I was looking at a new build over 1200$ and wanted x16/x16 PCI-e slots (not that they give that much more performance).
What do you think a processor like that would do to the 750 and the 860 and the 965/965?
