Ok guys. New to this forum, be gentle. I want to try my hand at building a pc. I guess i am tired of trying to buy one that works for me. These are all the components i believe i have decided on. I think going by what i have read, i did well so far. The only things i am things i am going back and forth on are the video card, a or 2 hdd and RAM. There are just so many choices. Games are important, but not the only thing. I want to be able to play Doom 3 (maxed if possible) as i have had it for years and never been able to play it out of low, diablo 3, rts's.....etc. any input or opinions would be gratly appreciated. Also.......there is a W7 Premium Builder pack. It's $80 cheaper. I don't think i would need to transfer the license ever. I should be able to get a year or so out of my build, yeah?

What other uses besides gaming is this rig for?

I'd recommend going with at least an 80gb SSd.

You really don't need a 850W psu unless you're using 2 gtx 480's or 3 of some other card.

Regardless, the XFX Black edition 850 w is cheaper and better.

HAF 932 is stupidly big. You can just go with the 922, it's already large as most other full tower cases. You can buy the 932 side fan and add it in yourself to the 922 if you want it. They're the same thing despite specs being listed as different.

Sorry if I am posting wrong. Im not so much worried about size or anything like that. What I want to be prepared for is that if I do get into more gaming on the pc I want to be able to do so. Money not so big a deal.

Budget wise we can give you a budget gaming build for $600 or a eyefinity/3d vision gaming build for $3000...so we need a slightly narrower range as well rest of the questions in sticky answered.

I would recommend a WD Black hard drive instead of the SSD. A 640 or 750 is pretty fast. It is hard to tell much difference in speed when you have a fast processor. I'll agree with the above that a 60GB SSD is not big enough anyway, you should go at least 80GB. You would still want a separate hard drive to use for storage, so you could start with it and see how happy you are with it.

The 850W power supply is probably more than you need, depending on video card configuration. You should see the periodic articles that Tom's posts about "best video cards for the money", and determine what level of video card you want. If you end up with a pair of big cards then an 850W power supply might be appropriate, with lesser video cards you could scale the power supply down a bit.

Went with my list. Got everything tues and yesterday. Was a lot of fun. Everyhthing running great. I did get 6 gb of Dominator RAM and an MSI Cyclone Geforce GTX460. I know it;s an old game but doom 3 looks great at max res and graphics. No stutter, i haveb't seen that before....lol. Now i want to build a computer for my office, just cause it was fun. Thank you all for your input. I think this might be an addiction.

thanks for the input. To get the OC i used ET6 and just tweaked that a little until it crashed then backed off. The smart overclcocker didn't change any voltages as i have read some do. So just those couple things you would change. Good to know. i also want to sli video cards. nvidea says as long as they are the same class, manufacturer doesn't matter. i.e. and msi 460 gtx and say a evga 460 gtx. and does the memory have to be the same. the main reason is i want to see how all this stuff works and get an understanding of it all.

Painted the inside of the case flat black. Took the red fan out of the front and replaced it with a blue one. Makes it look not so mean. Waiting to see some green 200 mm's somewhere. I like black and green. Makes that big case look not so empty inside. Let me know if anyone wants to see. My first build just needs some clean up inside (cable management and such.) Thanks again. I have gotten a lot of good info from these forums.
