Hi

I have this motherboard in my PC(ECS H61H2-MV) and i read somewhere that it could house an i7.At the moment i have and i3 3240 that came with it(was a shop brought pre built).Obviously i can't just stick any old i7 in it if indeed it really is compatible with an i7 so i would like some advice and wondered if anybody is familiar with this motherboard....

I dont know if any of this info helps but Chipset is Ivy Bridge and socket 1155 LGA

I want a better processor so i can run games like DayZ and Arma better, while an i3 isn't bad i could do with something better.I could also consider an i5???

I am a complete noob so please try and put any replies in noob friendly format

Solution
I don't know what BIOS means to be honest.I am not really cut out to delve into PC's maybe i should buy a new one with an i5/i7 already in it.I just have to stick graphics cards in

I know what overclocking is though and i am not too bothered about that,as long as i can play MMOs like DayZ a bit better plus.....i can have a wider and better range of graphics cards i can put in it as,as of now i am limited due to bottlenecking

I do know that i can only go up[ to a 3rd gen of cpu with this

Well the BIOS(firmware of the motherboard) exists is to initialize and test the system hardware components.
It can be updated. ECS board can be a little tricky sometimes to update them.

Getting a new motherboard/CPU combo is a good option if you have the budget.
A decent haswell system will be good enough for your needs(also, it's a little hard to find 3rd gen CPU for a good price).

If you're not into overclocking a simple H81 motherboard and a i5 will be great for gaming.
But make sure you have a good GPU, as that's more important than the CPU for games.

If you buy a already compatible motherboard for the i5, you won't need to update the BIOS.
It's pretty easy to fit the motherboard and CPU. Here's a PC building tutorial:

I wouldn't get that kit. For the same money you can get better components. Newer CPU, newer motherboard and more memory:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor (£131.20 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£31.74 @ Ebuyer)
Memory: Kingston Fury Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£55.11 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £218.05

Ok thank you for your replys

Just one more thing....will everything else in my PC be compatible with all that? maybe thats a silly question as the motherboard is the main PC part

i have an XFX 500w PSU
