i7 or i5?

Guys I was wondering wether or not I should get a i7 4790k or an i5 4960k. The main difference I can afford a Nvidia GTX 980 WINDFORCE with the i5, however I can afford a Nvidia GTX 970 with an i7. Pls help me, I'm pulling my hair out for this decider.

I would get the i5 is this is primarily a gaming PC. It is the way to go for sure.

That really depends on what the system will be used for. If it's a gaming system we need a little more information. What games do you plan on playing and at what resolution? Will you be doing any video editing or other CPU intensive tasks with the system? Do you plan on overclocking? The GTX 970 is all that is needed if you are just gaming at 1080p. If you are looking at multiple monitor gaming or resolutions higher than 1080p then the GTX 980 may make more sense.

Really all i want to do is gaming and then sometimes make and record a video. Also i would like a 1440p monitor however i only have a 1080p monitor, so i'm not going to be upgrading any time soon. I plan on running FPS and triple a releases.

I would get the i5 for sure in that case.

If you don't plan on overclocking another option is a Xeon processor. They have HyperThreading like an i7, but they can't be overclocked. They are priced between the i5 and i7 chips.

Another question id like to ask is wether i should get an i5 with the Nvidia gtx 980 or or i7 with an i7 with gtx 970?

The i5 for sure. Always get the better GPU when the system is primarily for gaming. The i5 and i7 perform the same in games.
