i7 over i5 for the long-term?

Trying to decide if it's worth the money to get an i7 over an i5 - will i5 be outdated sooner? I plan to keep the laptop for 5 years. Probably the most intensive thing I'd do would be a consumer-level architectural program and basic tax software. Otherwise it will be for watching movies, downloading photos from my iPhone, maybe some basic photo-editing, and web surfing.

Deciding between:

Asus F556 15.6" 1080HD with i5-6200U, 8GB DDR3 RAM and 256 solid state drive $530

HP Notebook 15 with i7-6500U, 8GB RAM, 256 SSD $700

Dell Inspiron 15 5000 2-in-1 with i7-6500U, 16GB RAM (which I think is overkill) and 256 SSD $800

Thoughts?? Any insight is appreciated!

Just don't want to wish a year from now, I went with "more" :-/

Not a whole lot of difference between the two, the i7 has 4mb of cache vs 3 and is 300mhz faster. That's it, both are dual core hyper threaded cpu's. Unless the price difference is about $20-30 I'd go for the i5. Before 5yrs is up many things could change and you might find yourself upgrading to something else anyway.

The i5 should be fine aslong as your not doing anything other than what you said. The i7 might just be wasting your money. You could simply upgrade some ram in the future if it is getting a bit slow. I got Nothing else to say

look at some of msi's lower end i7 laptops if you want it to last a long time
but i would go for a cheaper for 3 years
