Gonna be replacing my cpu aio cooler from a 120 to a 240 and got a bonus for the holidays so was thinking about maybe upgrading my i7 12700kf to an i9 13 or 14th gen while I’m in there. Wondering if it’s worth it and which one I should maybe go with. I’m on a Gigabyte Z690 mobo. Appreciate it. Happy holidays friends!

If you're going with an i9, I'd ask you to look at nothing less than a 360mm AIO. Make and model of your case?

I’m on a Gigabyte Z690 mobo.
Best list the specs to your current build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time?

The 12700K is hardly a lagging slouch just yet....; I'd seriously question the need for an upgrade unless already planning on some sort of outrageous framerate goals at 1080P /300+Hz monitor with an RTX4090 combo...

(Gaming benchmarks in video below start at 00:16 in video unless you care to examine 7-zip and encoding stats comparisons..)

Regarding you choice between 13th gen vs. 14th gen, I'd not pay too much extra for the 14th gen given it's mere 100-200 MHz boost in 1-2 cores, and typical 100 MHz boost in all core gaming, resulting in typical 1% fps gains in most gamesl However, if prices were equal, or very close, sure, opt for 14th gen..l but , 14th gen not worth even an extra $100 in my opinion.)

This is exactly the info I needed. Yeah no 4090 for me at of yet. I'll stick with the i712700 for now. Appreciate you!
