I currently have these components.
  • Old i9-12900KF
  • Crucial P5 2TB PCIe M.2
  • GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6500 XT GAMING OC 4G(GV-R65XTGAMING OC-4GD)
  • ASRock Z690 Phantom Gaming 4/D5 INTEL
  • TWO Crucial DDR5 4800_32G
  • Cougar Gex 1050 power supply
I am thinking of replacing the CPU with either i9-13900k or 7950x.

On pcpartpicker.com, I noticed that ASRock Z690 is not searchable once I choose 7950x or i9-13900k.

So does this mean, I can't use Z690 once I decide to use 7950x or i9-13900k?

As far as I know, 13th gen Intel CPUs do NOT require a 13th gen motherboard.

So Z690 should be OK. There may be exceptions and a BIOS update may be required on a Z690.

I'd look at the Asrock web site for info about your specific board.

Regardless, I'd wait for specific reviews. The 13900k is supposed to be released this coming Thursday and reviews should follow quickly.

I have no idea about 7950x.

As of now the 13XXX is not listed as supported with your board. This should change after that processor is released.

No you can't use a AMD processor on a Intel board.

The 13900K will work on your current motherboard once an appropriate bios update is released. May I ask what the reason for the upgrade is, you already have a very good CPU?

As of today, the 13900K does not show up on your asrock z690 motherboard support list.
But, virtually every motherboard maker either has or has promised 13th gen via a bios update. Possibly, they are waiting for official launch.
Wait for the launch to see if there is any big benefit to you to change to a Z790 based motherboard.
I suspect there will be nothing important.

7950x would require a motherboard change.
And, one would need to check with the motherboard ram support to verify that your existing ram is compatible. Ryzen is very tightly tied to ram and not allDDR5 ram can be expected to be supported.
This is a moot point since 7950x is not expected to
perform any better worse than your 12900K.
