Hey guys,
I recently bought the i9 9900 for 200$ brand new.
And i want to replace my 9700k because of the thread count.
Planning to sell another rig built around the 9700k.

I couldn't find much info on the 9900 in terms of gaming and workstation.
I just want to make sure i'm not going backwards with the 9900, because the 9700k is super fast.

Solution
The i9-9900 is faster

CPU benchmark's website is pretty useful in regards to giving you the general idea as to how much better a processor is compared to another. You can tell by looking at the "CPU mark rating" if you scroll down a bit, it shows up as those colored bars giving a score. The higher the score the better the processor

However it is worth noting the i7-9700k can be overclocked while the i9-9900 can't be (unless you have the K version)

But at out of the box speeds, the i9-9900 is certainly faster

$200 seems like a great price, but, I suspect a sidewise move unless your apps can make good use of more than 8 threads.
Try running with only 7 threads on your 9700K and see if it makes any difference. I bet you can't tell any.

You now have the ability to try both and see which you like better.

Thanks a lot!

I really cant make the cpu work on 100% load but im thinking about the future, seems 8 threads isn't enough.
But i will give it a try and see for myself which one is better.

If primarily gaming, the 9700K is more than fast enough...(fast than the all 3x00 variants in 99% of gaming benchmarks..)

If the focus is on tasks that will benefit heavily from SMT/Hyperthreading, the 9900/9900K should get the nod.
Thanks!
I want to make sure my cpu can handle all tasks in the next 5 years.
