Hi.
Ive just bought an i9 - 9900k.
At the minute im running an i5 - 6600k.
Ive looked online and some website says my motherboard Gigabyte z170XP - SLI is compatible with the i9 but with it being a few years old im starting to doubt my purchase. its the same 1151 socket.
Can anyone shed some light on what stats on the mobo i need to be looking at before i just plug it in and try.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick responses, good job i didnt try it!
Ive just ordered an aorus master z390.
Now im hoping to find a way to install new motherboard and cpu without having to do a clean install of windows.
Do you think thats possible ?

It is always recommended to do a clean install when you change motherboard. It may boot up and seemingly run fine but you may have lingering performance or stability issues. If you really don't want to do a new install, I'd at least uninstall previous mobo drivers (chipset, LAN, audio, etc) after it's in your new rig and then install the ones for your new motherboard.

Ok guys n gals thanks for the advice, il just have to save all my pictures onto a hard drive, ive got quite a few old crypto wallets knocking about somewhere aswell. i best check them too.

You will not have to install windows again because it all saves onto harddrive

Don't listen to this.

DO a clean install.

Even if it boots up and works, many of our users report problems when swapping in new hardware even from the same brand. You are spending a lot of money on this CPU and motherboard and you want the most out of it right? Reinstall Windows.
