IBM sued for 100 million Pesos
Philippines counter sued for $4.3 million (US?)


I wonder what the exchange rate is (Peso vs. US$)...or I would if I hadn't seen it in the other article: "The computer firm is demanding 205 million pesos (4.33 million US dollars) in damages and legal expenses."

You sue us we double dog sue you in return...Muhahhahahahah

From what i read from the local news sites, it seems that the IBM's software had problems with large amounts of data. The local company that was mentioned in the article was affiliated with IBM, so its the contractor (Questonix) and the software company (IBM), and questonix said before that the IBM software was buggy and that IBM wasnt doing anything to fix it

now questonix is saying that the cause of the crashes was due to not using the best database practices

Shouldnt the software manufacturer be liable if it's software was not working as intended?

Hey IronRyan, up yours buddy. They have more computer parts readily available in the Philippines than you can find any crappy computer store here in the States. I built 4 computers while I was there, without the hassle of ordering from some damn website and waiting for my parts to arrive. So don't be a smart ass when you obviously don't now anything about another country.
 
Haha, this happens around early April when GSIS system failed, and since they cant blame themselves, they pointed fingers to Questronix and IBM.

Apparently, the Philippines would lose this one.

Yes we do have PCs here in Manila, and most of them can be better than yours.

@dougwhateva: obviously you don't know much about Asia. There are other countries worst off than the Philippines. At least get some info before you start talking out of your behind.

Now gets countersued by almost 20 fold!

IBM is taking it way out of proportion.
Your software seems defunct... so just take care of the issue.

I think I want to take a acationin the Philippines now.
 
The problem is simple and 100% the fault of GSIS (Philippines).

Rather than divide their database into smaller tablespaces they got lazy and put everything into one tablespace. So now they have a 2TB tablespace full of tables with 16K page size.

Nobody in their right minds would do this and it's 16 times bigger than the maximum allowed for DB2. Now the junior DBA that set this up can't admit he screwed up and so he's trying to blame IBM. Suggest the idiot DBa reads the spec of the database before blaming others.

3rd world country, 3rd world training and 3rd world Database Administration.

We usually get our hardware on the same date as you guys on US soil, and in some cases we get ours earlier than you do. i7, Phenom 2, DDR3, all were available roughly 1 to 2 weeks after launch. We could usually get things here cheaper, sometimes even cheaper than newegg, amazon, etc.

GSIS would surely lose this one, their top brass should have just kept their mouth shut. I've seen these government projects wherein usually they play the blame game, but few have ever gone public and usually they resolve the situation. Questronix should be the one blamed in this scenario (unless of course if the GSIS and Questronix's management are very good buddies or even relatives, which is usually the case).

It's just a simple case of pointing fingers at each other. Nothing will get solved......

Although I'd disagree on the last sentence. I'd revise it as such :

3rd World Country, First class training, first class laziness.... -_-
 
@TonyGordon - If your sources are reliable then that's probably the cause for all this hoopla. Furthermore, what can anyone expect from a government office in the Philippines? These offices tend to be somewhat technologically backwards in most cases.And the people working in them are probably jaded from the monotony of their routine jobs and low-paying salary.

You might want to rethink your last statement. Besides, who made up this whole 1st first world, 2nd world, 3rd world country business anyway? Probably the ones who live in the first world. No need to be condescending.

lol your so funny, it's really easy here buying PC parts and assembling it.. it's only like buying in candy store wahehe... also we got a place called gilmore where bunch of stores selling computer products and it's within metro manila...

anyway about the topic.. fcking GSIS, we know everytime something comes up it's our fault... damn my country.. oh my bad it's not my country it's our goverment T_T
 
i hope ibm wins this one... and i hope those politicians go to jail... but unfortunately, it's the people that will always carry the burden these political fools do in office...
 
I'm an american living in the Philippines. This country is in last place for a reason. The people are the biggest bunch of idiots in the world. When you do run into a smart person here it's like finding a stream in West Texas. You wonder how the hell it got here.

ceteras is in the Philippines because that "that biggest bunch of idiots" describes his attitude towards his ease with finding some desperate and poor lady who is a whole bunch cuter than any woman who'd tolerate his attention in the US and younger than is moral (or maybe even legal!) over here.

Obviously he's never been to Washington D.C. either.

Anyone who looks a the Intel cpu in their PC over the last 10 - 12 years was likely to see the sticker "Made in the Philippines" on it.

don't you know that you could be a laughing stock here in the philippines? many would think that we filipinos are idiots because of being hospitable but in fact, your the one who's being fooled by other filipinos. why don't you look at your countrymen first and look how noob they are in many things before you look down on us...
