The subject of Intel vs. IBM was discussed Here and at this time, IBM is in no shape to go up against Intel toe to toe, in Intel's market. Intel has twice the liquid assets, and has market control.
It would not be a morally good idea, nor an economical idea for IBM to go up against Intel when Intel has the market, money, mass production capability, research that is years ahead of currently released technology, and a history of reliability with consumers. IBM would just be wasting hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars to try and take Intel down. Not to mention the fact that Intel pays MEGA bucks to IBM in license royalties as it stands...
However, at this point, it does appear that IBM is trying to gain an advantage by "buying" tech from other companies...Apple...AMD...in order to improve their technology enough to compete with Intel. Maybe in the future(5+ years), they could possibly do something, but not in the next 3 years...
Ok, so you have to put your "2 cents" in, but its value is only "A penny's worth". Who gets that extra penny?
