dear rolli and everyone,
i bought a HIS H545H1GD1 Radeon HD 5450 Silence 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express x1 Low Profile Video Card with Eyefinity for 140 usd plus shipping.
it did not fit and the server is down now.
should i try to finf x16 or x8
i do not know if x16 would work with ibm x3400 7976 K6M server.
any help for this particular machine to choose a sound card and a professional graphics card would be great
thanks a lot.

best regards

dear 4 max and jd fan

i am trying to use the ibm x3400 server as a workstation for video rendering and for using adobe premier

best regards

I know why you are or were attracted to this machine but it is intended for use as a server given that it has a physical 8x slot. If there is nothing behind the slot you might be able to cut the slot to mount a normal graphics card but it will only run in 8x mode. You will have to be careful with that machine from now on as the back of the card isn't going to lock in the slot. 8x slots in these machines is meant for large raid controllers.

Hi, there are some forums where they put in a pcie x16 card to a pcie x8 slot. Need to either cut the mobo pcie x8 blockers or need make slots in the pcie x16 card so can slot in the mobo x8 slot. Seem like being done well and running using both methods. Will be getting a server mobo soon and will try to put in x16 pcie card using the latter way...better damage the gc than the mobo !! 😀

Hi! fitted a Nvidia BFG 9600 GTX by modifying the pci-e8 slot and trimming the southbridge heatsink. HOWEVER Drivers refuse to install due to a lack of BIOS information ... might need to test that again after V1.7 firmware upgrade

Upgrade your IMB X3400 7976 BIOS to v1.7 , Have a 670 NVIDIA BFG series running in the machine without any issues.
