Solution

yea they are the same letter, i can launch the applications from the shortcut but i'm not sure why the icons are not loading...

Do you mean the icon as in the picture is not loading but the shortcut is there and working? Because it loads the shortcut from the files on the drive and does not see the drive when it loads the desktop. The icon files are either in the .exe or one of the .dll files, although it may be a separate icon file. You may be able to fix that by copying the setup folder for VLC to your local drive, then doing a change icon option on your shortcut and browse to that local folder to locate the icon image.

yes. but when i installed it on my external hdd, the icon is there. and also i'm using a ssd, so i'm afraid i'll have not enough space if i install all the applications on my ssd which is the main local drive...

btw this is not solved, i don't know who marked this as solved...

You need at least the files that store the icons copied locally if you want them to load properly.
Seems one of the moderators selected the best answer, likely in error as we don't usually select Best Answer ourselves unless it's an old thread or it's being locked for some reason.

I did that (copying the icon to the local drive) and it works, but out of curiosity, i tried to change it back again to the icon file on the external hard disk drive and it works, the icon is still there, even after restarting and shutting down and on-ing it back again, but again i'm not sure if it will revert back to not loading after a day or 2 so ill give it about 2-3 days and update here again

EDIT: well yep you have to have the icon file on the local drive... if not it will not load, thanks
